Budget Deja Vu

It seems like just a few months ago we rewrote the state budget–and now we may need to do so again.

The governor is expected to announce this morning that she’ll call lawmakers back to Olympia after the Nov. revenue forecast to re-balance the state budget.

Yesterday the gov told a group of business leaders at Suncadia that the next projection of state tax collections would be even gloomier than this month’s,  which forecast a $1.4 billion budget gap. Gregoire said on Nov. 17 she expects the gap to widen significantly.

Today also is the deadline for state agencies to turn in their supplemental budget “requests” for budget reductions of 5 and 10 percent. The governor says the revenue forecast will make those cuts irrelevant and that agencies will have to dig deeper.
